HOSTING A BRIDAL SHOWER

Run with the fact that your event can be as feminine as you desire. Not only is the occasion all about the blushing bride, but the guests too are predominantly going to be women.

So deck the halls with flowers! Have roses bursting from teacups, hydrangeas hanging from the chandeliers, flowers nestled between your canapés, ranunculus clustered down the centre of the table and windowsills filled with vases of peonies. Choose flowers that are in season over imports so they emulate the weather and the atmosphere of the event.

A bridal shower is the perfect opportunity to go wild with your sweets and treats table. We all love sweet treats that doubles as eye candy. For inspiration, take a look at Amy Atlas Events. Atlas creates the most stunning and tempting styled sweets.

Remember that it is all too easy to turn a bridal shower into a hen’s. All it takes is a feather-bower and a tiara thrown into the mix. Everyone likes a little novelty, but be careful not to overdo it, and instead be subtle with the marital themed touches. Be feminine with your colour choices but opt for pastels over glaring hot pink. These diamond ring donuts are the perfect example of clever touches to keep in mind the bride-to-be.

Games are a fun way to celebrate the coming wedding. Bride and groom trivia is a classic.
We’re loving this ‘he said/ she said’ questionnaire below and 'Bridal Bingo'. Their both fun and add a touch of humour to the celebrations.

Be celebratory, but remember that a bridal shower is only the precursor to the big day; modesty, simplicity and intimacy are perfect for a bridal shower.

MCGRATH FOUNDATION CURVE LURVE LAUNCH

On Tuesday 31 July 2013, we created 1950's inspired morning tea at the beautiful Lindesay House in Darling Point to launch The McGrath Foundation Curve Lurve Program.

The aim of the event was to remind young Australians that ‘if you grow them, you need to know them’ through the launch of The McGrath Foundation world leading breast awareness education initiative, Curve Lurve, with research revealing 50% of Australian women aged 20 to 40 do not conduct regular breast awareness sessions.

The innovative Curve Lurve program aims to empower young women in particular to look after and know their bodies, and to take action that promotes their health and wellbeing.

Complete with a free Curve Lurve iPhone app to help women conduct regular breast awareness sessions, the Curve Lurve program also includes resources for high schools, the workplace and the community with workbooks, presentations and videos available for free download from the McGrath Foundation website www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au.

This was a truly rewarding event to be apart of we loved working with the incredible team at The McGrath Foundation in making this initiative come to life. We have download the app, created our profile and recommend you do the same.

As they say - If you grow them, you need to know them!'

EVENT TRENDS

Every Year there is always a number of trends that present themselves and affect all areas of design including events. As always the Marilyn Grace Team are keeping on top of the emerging trends. Today we have picked out a few of the top trends that will be sure to influence our events for the remaining months of 2013.

COLOUR
Metholescence . . . mean anything to you? 2013 brings with it a new word relating to colour. The hottest colours this year are all shades of green so think Emerald, Grayed Jade and Mint. Incorporate these greens into your event style. Invitation cards, lighting, balloons and lounge areas will welcome this beautiful palette.
Sustainability is a top objective for many of our clients at Marilyn Grace, so there won’t be a shortage to bring those beautiful greens to the forefront!

EASE
2012 brought with it some serious extremes and in your face trends, so this year is all about encompassing that relaxed feel. Tranquil and understated yet sophisticated environment is what we will be portraying in our clients projects this year. Even our clients with large-scale budgets will be staying away from throwing the flash and decadent events. Whilst they will never shy away from quality, all elements will have a purpose and relate to the objective of the event.

CATERING
Fresh is best for 2013. The garden to plate concept is really avant-garde this year. As we all know food is key at an event, generally saying it’s what people go home thinking about, so this years events will most definitely be bringing in the freshest of tastes.

If 2013 trends are making you anxious, fear not, the classic approach to an event is still in, even in an age where we congregate through social media and are open to much more than ever before. There is a renewed interest in classic styles modernized for the 21st century. All of the old faithfuls are still about; just make sure they have that extra vavavoom to give it a new life.
